The sport and rec. sector produced $11,888 million of output in 93/94

Aerobics was the most popular organised sport for Australian adults, followed by Golf, Tennis, Netball and Lawn Bowls in a 96/97 survey.
Over 61% of 5-14 year olds played sport during 96/97
Swimming, Basketball, Netball, and Soccer (ranked in order) were the most popular sports with children during 96/97
Australian households spent $5,900 million on sport and recreation in 93/94
Approximately 830,000 volunteers contributed 105 million hours to sport and recreation in 94/95
In addition, recent national research concluded:
- 96% of Australians watch sport on TV
- 70% watch football on TV each week
- 60% attend sporting fixtures
