The National Board of SLM Australia has officially appointed Rev. Cameron Butler as National Director of SLM Australia.
Chairman Graham Crew said, "We are thrilled to have appointed Cameron Butler, Chaplain to the Melbourne Football Club (AFL) as our new National Director." "After extensive searching and interviews we're very excited on the new appointment and believe Cameron's tenure will bring an excellent array of skills and vision to extend the impact SLM has on sport throughout Australia."
Cameron has come to SLM with an extensive ministry background. He is currently the Chaplain for the Melbourne Football Club, now in his eighth year, Director of Good News Sports; guest lectures at Harvest Bible College (Melbourne), and has served as a Pastor in the Assemblies of God for over 15 years. Prior to his appointment at SLM Cameron was the Senior Business Development Manager of a large Melbourne based Information Technology company. He brings well-rounded corporate knowledge to this role.
Cameron was instrumental in providing pastoral care following the recent tragedy befalling AFL footballer Troy Broadbridge due to the Boxing Day Tsunami. Cameron had married Trisha & Troy only a few weeks beforehand. The coaches, players and management of the football club expressed their deep gratitude towards Cameron in his valuable role during this difficult time.
"It has long been my desire to see SLM become an influential ministry to the sports community." revealed Cameron. We have a wonderful opportunity to influence our nation and expose it to the love and grace of Jesus Christ. I look forward to working with you to advance SLM."
"As this is a newly created position, SLM would encourage all members to stand with Cameron in his new role." said Crew. "Cameron's heart is to make sure things are done with excellence and without compromise both in quality and outcome."
Cameron will immediately begin to establish lines of communication and meet with Chaplains around Australia. His first priority is to set up the new offices in Melbourne.
