We wish to acknowledge and remember the late Hansie Cronje for being a great
cricket player as well as an inspirational captain of the South African team
during the time of his leadership.
Initially aiming to follow a straight path in life, the temptation to give
into greed overtook him. This was exposed in public; was seen to have let
many down, the result of this character flaw having enormous consequences
and implications.
To Hansie's defense, much sorrow for his wrongdoing was expressed in tears.
For him, it was certainly a battle seeking to regain credibility after the
offense. At the time of his death, he was in the process of rebuilding his
life, at times working with some of the more underprivileged.
We offer up our prayers and condolences at this difficult time for his
family, loved ones and friends.
Whilst not excusing the mistakes Hansie made in his life, we would certainly
hope that the Cricket community and indeed the community in general would
acknowledge that even out of adverse circumstances, good things can come
when approached with a sincere heart and attitude resulting in transformed
character.
We believe that Hansie was displaying these characteristics before the
tragedy of his premature death and hope that people would acknowledge this
in their memory of him.
